SOLAR FOR NEPAL - February 1, 2017
Kristin Lau
Opening Reception: 6:00pm to 9:00pm
On April 25th, 2015 a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, followed by a 7.3-magnitude earthquake just two weeks later. SunFarmer has since been actively involved in post-earthquake relief and reconstruction, providing critical electricity access to those in need.
SunFarmer has been active in Nepal since 2013 and continues to implement post-earthquake relief and reconstruction projects that provide critical electricity access to projects that support health, education, and access to water.
Solar for Nepal is a fundraising event to support farmers in rural Nepal hosted by ELSE and SunFarmer. 80% of Nepal’s citizens rely on agriculture for income - yet 8 months of dry climate limit production. With automatic, controlled irrigation via solar water pumps the length of the growing season can be doubled, and increase incomes by 100-200%. Additional to irrigation, other applications of solar water pumps include; drinking water, livestock, and fish farming. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the down payments for the installation of these solar-powered irrigation systems.
For all those who support the important work of SunFarmer, come together at Arta Gallery on Wednesday, February 1st to view a private exhibition of award-winning photographer Kristin Lau's work from Nepal, participate in a photo auction, see a short documentary film screening, listen to solar leaders speak, eat, drink and celebrate our fundraising efforts this year!
