Collection: Eugenia Elder
Eugenia Elder is a Canadian contemporary painter based in Toronto, Ontario. Her images are sharp and vast, conveying spontaneity and insecurity, while resulting in a peaceful and stable aesthetic.
Her recent series “Our Love” conceptualizes stages of relationships using dots in the centres of large canvases. She drew from colours that she saw along the West Toronto Railpath on her commute and later used scenes she saw in the area as inspiration for her latest landscape works. For "Our Love," she configured dot arrangements that suggested precariousness but that ultimately lead to one gold ochre-coloured dot. The series is meant to convey vicissitudes of long-term relationships; the gold ochre dot at the end of each arrangement signifies a rewarding outcome.
