Q&A WITH TORONTO-BASED PHOTOGRAPHER MORGAN JONES

As this year our photography exhibition is virtual, Arta Gallery director/curator Fay Athari and the Arta Team has curated a series of artist Q&A to introduce all amazing photographers that are part of our Time Lost exhibition.

Today we are having a Q&A with Toronto-based photographer Morgan Jones. He has been working with mixed media for the better part of two decades. Self-described as an artist driven by the casual observation of the people and life around him.

Why did you choose to pursue a career as a photographer?

It just sort of happened ... I had lots of creative ideas that I lacked the necessary technical ability with paint or other mediums to execute on. So when I discovered photography it enabled me to creatively tell my story and express myself.

What is your favorite subject to photograph?

I don't really have any particular one subject that is a favourite. Rather, I love to shoot anything that has a sort of whimsy to it.

What makes the good picture stand out from the average?

I will take 100's of shots from any given photo shoot that I do. I can't really put into words what makes one image stand out from the rest. It is just sort of a feeling that I get. More of an "Ahah! That is the image".

What kind of tools do you use for post-processing?

LightRoom and Photoshop

What is the most rewarding part of being a photographer for you?

When I am able to take a concept, an idea ... pull all the moving parts together, set it up and shoot it and then capture something I believe to be whimsical, magical and moving.
