This September, Arta Gallery welcomes the solo-exhibition "HUELLAS" by Lydia Panart.
Path, footprint, trace, vestige, remnant, trail, imprint, sign, deep & lasting impression...
Walking along a reflective path, I found inspiration in those "huellas" that I had once left behind. The way I look at them now is no longer the same. Their significance to me has changed as I see them in a new light, coloured by the passage of time. These paintings are my journey, my 'huellas', my self-discovery.
Lydia Panart graduated in Architecture from the National University of Buenos Aires. Following her interior design and architecture practice, Lydia continued studying Fine Arts under the mentorship of renowned Argentinian master painter Kenneth Kemble. While living in Buenos Aires, she developed her career as a professional artist exhibiting in South American and European centres. In Canada, Lydia is an active artist in Toronto and Ottawa, participating in various art exhibits, symposiums, as well as in public and community art projects. As an educator, she offers a variety of art programs and creative workshops for private corporations and institutional groups.

These images depict a faith that nature is simultaneously both matter and spirit.
The living dance of the world envelops us, and we dream it to life together.

The Leading Lights exhibition is a group show featuring 8 artists who reside in Burma, Vietnam, or Cambodia. Featured artists include: Hoang Phuong Vy, Nguyen Quang Minh, Lim Khim Katy, Pen Robit, Heng Ravuth, Kyaw Soe, Moe Nyo and Min Zaw.
The East Gallery has worked before with five of the eight artists in the exhibition and Andrew Fitzgerald, the Curator of Leading Lights', is pleased to be receiving an opportunity to see their latest work. The three artists who are new to The East Gallery, Kyaw Soe, Moe Nyo and Min Zaw, are well-established Burmese painters with a number of international exhibitions and prestigious accomplishments under their belt.
For the most part, the artists are relatively young (under 40) and yet all of them have developed a level of confidence in their style such that we are provided with terrific examples of their work in this show. There is also a wide range of media used (Watercolour, Oil, Enamel; Acrylic; Photographic Mosaic) to communicate their vision. Burma, Vietnam and Cambodia are all changing very quickly and it is exciting to see artistic snapshots from these fascinating countries.

Each artist encapsulates the many unique and colourful ways to capture one’s own individual worldview through their own lens. As each of us learn to look and experience the world from a different perspective, we try to customize our world, city and home and put it on the world map. Photographers can focus on what the world looks like in objects, urban settings, and landscapes, however even the same shot can produce a different perspective. The collection of series range from our Canadian West and East Coast landscapes, to wildlife shots in Africa, to religious environments and markets in India, and urban life in China. The unique and contrasting colour and styles of each photograph bring our gallery to life in a different way than most see Arta throughout the year, as we operate as a painting and sculpture gallery foremost. Light and colour can influence how people perceive the world. In the visual arts, colour theory is a body of practical guidance to colour mixing and the visual effects of a specific colour combination. A Colour Theory art exhibition explores a colour as a tool in an artist- viewer interaction: both through showing the artists’ understanding of the outside world and their inner emotions and through the viewer’s personal interpretation of the images based on a specific colour perception.
