Archivaldo Rozas was born in Concepción, Chile and studied painting and engraving at the School of Fine Arts in Viña del Mar. From 1973 onward, he has participated in various juried shows, exhibitions, and biennials, including various Chilean and Latin-American retrospectives. Upon immigrating to Canada in 1990, he returned to abstract painting, and has been working within these forms since. His works can be found in various international public and private collections, including the National Museum of Art in Santiago, Chile.
“I am an abstract painter whose practice is based on the format of the ‘Series’, where a particular theme, idea, palette, or gesture is resolved and exhausted over the course of many canvases. I use a spectrum of warm colours alongside a selection of cold ones. Each canvas represents a carefully, considered manifestation of the element in question, which, when viewed alongside its sister canvas, shows my laboured pursuit and exploration of it.”
