M. Jones is a mixed-media artist, living and working in Toronto, Ontario. In August of 2013, Jones decided to pursue his lifelong passion and left his position of 12 years as the Director of Sales for a large multi-national consumer electronics manufacturer to launch a full-time career as a professional artist.
Jones is a self-taught artist inspired by the casual observation of the people and life around him; his work is constantly evolving, guided by his tendency toward patience, observation, perseverance and, quite simply – effort. His philosophy embraces ‘trial and error’ which he believes are wonderful teachers. Continually looking to incorporate new ideas and mediums, Jones follows a multi-step process when creating his mixed-media art.
Since launching his career as a professional artist Jones has earned several notable accolades, including exhibitions at galleries such as Walnut Contemporary and Blueprint. Well acquainted with the arts scene, Jones has worked on several diverse projects across Toronto. These include being a guest artist for Plan Canada involved in the launch of their book “Every Day is Mala Day” to having his works displayed in offices such as The Capitol One building. Jones was commissioned to do lobby art for the Daniels Corporation as a part of their Regent Park condo development, One Park Place. Having also supplied works to the design team of Cecconi Simone, Jones’s works have been used both locally and internationally. Jones may also be seen featured in the winter issue of the new Toronto fashion and lifestyles magazine Novella.
In capturing the fleeting, everyday, eye-catching moments of life through photography Jones transforms raw images into unique visual masterpieces. Applying the additional layering of mixed media elements his images take on an entirely new meaning and depth. With a keen eye for texture, design and composition, coupled with a whimsical flare, Jones creates works that are aesthetically engaging while also evoking a visceral response in the viewer.
