OLGA KOTOVA
Olga’s paintings are abstract studies in acrylic on canvas that capture intriguing atmospheres in landscape. The roughly textured surfaces of her works intensify the interaction between light and color. Olga blends acrylics in an exuberant way, using brushes, pallet knives, and various objects that can enhance the surface. She paints in high-temperature shades of red, orange, yellow as well as the cooler tones of blue and green. A diverse array of lines, the juxtapositions of hot and cold hues, and the use of primary colors make statements that are abstract, yet also rooted in personal experience.
Technique plays an important role in an artist’s experiments. It allows Olga to focus on finding the best way to express what she sees in all her favourite places. She layers color over color, one hue over another, combining different emotional elements into a lively and harmonious blend of senses. Even the most abstract compositions share with you the feeling of a place that the artist has visited or lived in. In each of her paintings, Olga strives to draw the attention to the brilliant colors and the vibrant energy of a space that is both ideal and genuine.
“I find that most artists develop their personal style while working with their favorite subjects. In my case, it is landscape. As an artist I want to combine a modern palette and the elusive elements such as impression and spontaneity. My main goal is to capture the unique moment of an intense light that can linger for a minute and then disappear. I would like to follow these unique moments in every painting that I create, to catch them and share them with the viewers."
Olga is a full-time artist based in Toronto. She exhibits her work regularly in local galleries. Her works have been purchased by art collectors form all over the world.
